The museum is located west of the waiting room, in the former baggage area. Two rooms adjacent to the museum display area are included in the space. One room serves as SBRHS file storage, while the other provides secure storage for some of our treasures that have been relocated to this museum. Photographs, railroad and other vintage equipment associated with San Bernardino, uniforms, tableware, and other historic objects supplied by the two societies or acquired for display are shown in the exhibits. The historic Santa Fe steam locomotive No. 3751, which is parked in Redondo Junction in Los Angeles, is not on display at the San Bernardino Museum at the Depot.
The museum first opened its doors in July 2008 to celebrate the depot's original opening in July 1918, and it has been open every Saturday since then. More items were added after the initial opening, and the space was expanded to around 10,000 square feet. As shown in the image above, there is a designated section for 3751 information.
A number of other exhibits are one-of-a-kind and well worth seeing. The first is a telegraph office reproduction situated in a bay window-shaped chamber based on Santa Fe plans. The second exhibit is of Santa Fe's "Kite Shaped Track," which was promoted in the early twentieth century under the motto "No scene twice seen." Mark Landis created this exhibit, which contains vintage advertisements, a route map, and photographs of all the stations along the route in San Bernardino, Redlands, and Highland.
Visit the San Bernardino History and Railroad Museum's website for more information and images of these exhibitions and other portions of the museum.
